INN CROWD is a programme of high quality live literature performances touring to rural pubs across the South East and East of England from 2016 – 2019. It is intended to help reinforce pubs as central to rural community life by bringing exceptional cultural experiences to new audiences.  Deadline: Friday 8 September

INN CROWD is a collaboration between Applause Rural Touring and Creative Arts East, working with Pub is the Hub and artistic partners New Writing South and Writers' Centre Norwich.

What we are looking for

INN CROWD is seeking artists and companies to perform and tour live literature across its rural pub network in South East and East of England. Shows, sets or performances may include elements of theatre, poetry, spoken word, storytelling, literary adaptation, comedy, live art and audience participation...but the starting point for performances must be written or composed text.


We are looking for:

Co-Production: ideas for new shows, sets or performances that can be developed with time and assistance from the INN CROWD consortium.


Reshape: shows, sets or performances that have been fully or partially developed and can be reshaped to suit the INN CROWD scheme with assistance from the INN CROWD consortium.

Applause Outdoors - New commission opportunities for 2018 season

In summer 2018, Applause Rural Touringwill be programming outdoor performances into existing, locally organised village fetes, community events and Festivals in Kent and Sussex. These events take place almost exclusively at weekends from May to September.


We are looking to commission companies / artists with an established interest and track record of working outdoors and interactively who would like to be part of this programme.


All work should entertain and engage audiences, be self-sufficient (i.e. not require technical or other support / involvement by the host organisation) and be able to be accessed by diverse, non-age specific audiences. They can be walk about or static productions but they are intended to suit a range of time frames(i.e. does not require the audience to arrive at a certain time and remain for a set amount of time). For 2018 we are also looking to commission one new outdoor work inspired by spoken word that we can tour as part of our Inn Crowd project that brings exceptional live events to rural/community pubs –


We are offering the following opportunities and expect to take out between 6-8 shows this season:


Commissions and Reshape/development Awards

1 x Inn Crowd (spoken word inspired outdoor work) - commission fee between £3000 - £6000
AO new commissions for outdoor works – commission fees between £3000 - £8000
AO reshaping/development awards for existing works that requires some reshaping to tour rurally – development fees between £500 - £2500

Once you have filled out the relevant application form please send by email to making it clear in the subject line which funding option you are applying for by 5pm Sunday 1st October 2017. If you have been shortlisted, you will be notified by email by Friday 6th October. We will acknowledge receipt of your proposal, however, we regret we are unable to provide feedback to non-shortlisted applicants.
